Phaedra Divorcing Apollo Ahead of Prison Bid to Avoid His Restitution Fee?

Phaedra Parks is reportedly planning to divorce her husband Apollo Nida, physician and at least one tabloid reports it could be a strategic move to keep her from having to help pay back his million restitution penalty to the government.

Nida, mind 35, was sentenced in July to eight years in federal prison for his involvement in a fraud case. Prosecutors said Nida and a group of co-conspirators had been stealing checks and using stolen identities in filing fake tax returns as well as making fraudulent claims against the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for almost five years.

Additionally, Nida was hit with a $2 million restitution penalty that he must pay back within the next 20 years.

According to Britain’s Daily Mail, if Phaedra chooses to remain at her husband’s side, she would be forced to help pay that hefty penalty, which could cost her around $100,000 a year for the next 20 years.

Prior to that, there have been rumors circulating that the couple wasn’t really on good terms. The issue was given light by Nida himself when in an interview he disclosed the bitterness he felt towards Parks for not being there during his trial.

Apollo must surrender by noon on Sept. 10 at the FMC Lexington (a federal prison in Kentucky) to start his eight-year prison sentence.

Nida and Parks have two children, a three-year-old son named Ayden and a 15-month-old son named Dylan.
